The security in Kolkata has been increased with the directive for fast actions in case any unrest is feared as the situation in Bangladesh, the neighboring country, becomes worse.
Police sources informed on Sunday that the Commissioner Mr. Verma has made it clear that the violence in Bangladesh should not at all cause any inconvenience to Kolkata.
It was Saturday when the Commissioner presided over the Kolkata Police's monthly crime review meeting contesting the issue of unrest in Bangladesh occurred.
The Police Commissioner was reported to have indicated that preventative measures must be taken without hesitation if there is any fear of disturbances in Kolkata being caused by the continuing unrest in Bangladesh.
Determined to take especial care through maintaining daily police presence in the areas where population density is highest and also under the Kolkata Police's jurisdiction, the city is already being prepared with strict vigilance in its suburban police station areas and especially in its city area.
After going through intelligence reports, the directives were issued. "The commissioner has clearly mentioned that police stations will have to be alert and heighten the surveillance."
The city police chief's instruction was given because of the violence in Bangladesh which was caused by the death of a youth leader there.

Kolkata is under security alert since the city is gradually transitioning into the festive mood of Christmas followed closely by New Year.
The Commissioner has made the police stations aware about the law and order maintenance and security provision during this period.
Meanwhile, drivers under the influence will be targeted too. The Police Commissioner has made clear that the local police will be conducting frequent searches at hotels and guesthouses as well as raids.
Furthermore, there have been several fire incidents in the city that were talked about at the monthly meeting, the sources added.
All the police stations have been given the task of obtaining details on the quantity and type of flammable materials stored in the warehouses that are situated in their designated areas, as reported by IANS.
