Dr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group and Chancellor of BITS Pilani, visited the Pilani campus on Saturday.

During an interaction, local students and residents expressed their long-standing request for a medical institute in the region, in addition to the existing engineering programs.

Birla also emotionally recalled the visionary ideals of his father, the late Ghanshyam Das Birla, and said that his father had dreamt of an India that was industrially strong, socially progressive, and intellectually awakened. “Even before ‘nation-building’ became a common phrase, he laid the foundation for that dream,” Dr. Birla said.

Several notable figures were present at the event, including Member of Parliament Bijendra Ola, MLA Pitaram Kala, and District Chief Harshini Kulhari. On this occasion, former CJI, DY Chandrachud was also in Pilani.

Addressing the graduating students at the convocation ceremony, Birla also highlighted the challenges and complexities of the modern world. 

“We are all currently caught between geopolitical turbulence and rapidly evolving technology. The world today seems filled with uncertainty and contradiction. Take the month of June, for example — it felt as if we were on the brink of World War III. Headlines warned of escalating conflicts and disruptions in global trade. And yet, during the same period, the U.S. benchmark stock indices reached record highs. This is the kind of world we now live in — where anxiety and optimism coexist," Birla said.
