LIC Share price: Shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) rose over 2 per cent on Friday after the insurer posted a strong set of Q2 FY26 results. At 12:37 PM, LIC shares were trading 1.27 per cent higher at Rs 907.50 on the NSE, hitting an intraday high of Rs 914. The company’s market capitalization stood at Rs 5.74 lakh crore.
LIC reported a standalone net profit of Rs 10,053.39 crore for the July-September quarter of FY26, marking a 31 per cent year-on-year rise from Rs 7,620.86 crore in the same period last year.
Net premium income grew 5.5 per cent YoY to Rs 1.26 lakh crore. The insurer’s solvency ratio improved to 2.13 from 1.98 in the year-ago period, while asset quality for policyholders' funds strengthened.
LIC’s assets under management (AUM) increased 3.31 per cent to Rs 57.23 lakh crore. However, sequentially, profit after tax fell 8 per cent compared to Rs 10,957 crore in Q1 FY26.
The first-year premium rose to Rs 10,884 crore, up from Rs 7,566 crore in Q1 FY26. Renewal premium increased to Rs 65,320 crore from Rs 60,179 crore in the previous quarter, while single premiums stood at Rs 50,882 crore.
Brokerage views were mixed after the results. Goldman Sachs maintained a neutral rating on LIC but raised its target price to Rs 955 from Rs 930, citing improving product mix and sub-segment margins.
Citi retained its buy rating but trimmed the target price to Rs 1,345 from Rs 1,370. The brokerage highlighted LIC’s strong Q2 performance, encouraging business mix shift, and improving margins.
Citi noted that “market share stabilization in individual APE remains key for re-rating,” while also flagging that higher volumes could drive operating leverage and sustain value of new business (VNB) growth.
