Malayalam rapper Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, was recently taken into custody by Kerala’s forest department after cannabis was found in his flat.However, the rapper was released on bail and assured the police that he would be a better person and would try to correct himself.

The rapper talked to the media outside the court and said, “I will try to become a better person. I’m trying to correct myself. All those who hear me should understand that smoking and alcohol consumption are not good habits.”

For the unversed, the officials conducted a raid at his flat and found five grams of cannabis. The rapper was booked and eventually arrested following the raid based on a tip-off.

However, Vedan was later released after a magistrate court at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam granted bail, but was taken into custody of the forest department after he was spotted wearing a pendant allegedly having a leopard tooth during the drive against drugs on April 28. The Forest officials arrested Vedan under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Vedan told investigators that he received the tooth as a gift from a Sri Lankan person last year and was unaware of the legal issues surrounding it. The confiscated tooth was then sent for forensic analysis to confirm it was from a leopard.

The rapper notably received huge backlash all over social media following the drug allegations. Additionally, his involvement in this case has sparked considerable conversation within the Malayalam music and film industry.
