Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday came down heavily on Opposition parties criticising the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to her X account, Mayawati said that "dirty politics" in the name of the Pulwama attack goes against the interests of the nation and advised all political parties to unitedly support the Centre in every step as it readies its response to the ghastly attack on civilians.

"All parties should unite and support the government in every step taken by it regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. Instead of doing dirty politics under its cover by putting up posters and making statements etc., because this is creating confusion among the people, which is not good for the country," Mayawai said.

The Dalit leader also warned the Congress and the Samajwadi Party against "insulting" Dr BR Ambedkar and said that BSP could take to the streets if that happens.

"The architect of the Indian Constitution, the most revered Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar should not be insulted at all. Especially SP and Congress should take special care of this, otherwise BSP can take to the streets against them," she added.

Mayawati's response came a day after several Opposition leaders came under heavy criticism for questioning government and the Prime Minister even as the government measures its response to the worst civilian attack in decades in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress, which on Tuesday issued a gag order to its leaders asking them not to issue statements that veer from the official party line, took a U-turn of sorts as it posted a cryptic image showing a headless Prime Minister and captioned it "Gayab".

The now-deleted post, suggesting that the PM was missing in action in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, came for some harsh criticism online as well as from the BJP, which accused the party of "speaking the language of Pakistan".

Notably, National Conference president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, also took exception to the criticism against the Prime Minister and wondered how Opposition parties could question the Prime Minister and accuse him of being absent.

"Where is he missing? I know he is in Delhi," Abdullah told reporters. “We have given our full support to the prime minister. After that, we should not be questioning him. The prime minister should do whatever work he feels necessary," Abdullah said.
