The Ministry of Defence (MoD) will hold a press briefing at 10:00 AM today (May 9) to share crucial details of Operation Sindoor—India’s deepest cross-border military action inside Pakistan’s undisputed territory since the 1971 war. The briefing is expected to outline the objectives, planning, and aftermath of the strikes that were carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The Ministry confirmed that nine terror sites were hit in a calibrated overnight operation—four in Pakistan (Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot among them) and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to defence sources, these were locations where top leadership of proscribed groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were operating.
“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature,” the MoD said in a statement. “No Pakistani military installations were targeted. India demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and methods used.”
The operation was reportedly launched to avenge the recent Pahalgam terror strike and dismantle the infrastructure enabling such attacks. Intelligence inputs indicated that the targeted locations were being used for advanced training, coordination, and planning of attacks on Indian soil.
A top defence official noted, “This was a decisive message. India will not tolerate proxy terror networks operating under the shield of sovereign boundaries.”
Sources revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in constant touch with the armed forces as the operation unfolded. All nine targets were neutralised using precision-guided munitions. “Justice is served,” a senior Army officer said post-operation.
While India maintained restraint, Pakistan responded with artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). The Indian Army confirmed the loss of three civilian lives in the cross-border shelling. “We are responding proportionately,” the Army said in a late-night statement.
The 10 AM press briefing is expected to detail India’s official stance, strategic objectives, and call for regional stability.
