Meerut woman returning to Pakistani Husband in Karachi stopped at Attari-Wagah border: Report

Published on 27/04/2025 10:11 PM

As the deadline nears for the Pakistani nationals to leave India, hundreds of short-term visas holders are heading to Attari-Wagah border.

As per latest data by the government, as many as 537 Pakistani citizens have crossed to the other side. However, not everyone experienced an easy exit. A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, who is married to a doctor in Karachi, was stopped at the Integrated Check-Post because she carried an Indian passport.

As per a report by NDTV, the woman has been identified as one Sana. The report says that while the woman was stopped and told to return home, her children aged three and 1 were asked to go as they have Pakistani passports.

The report added that Sana’s husband, who had come from Karachi to receive them had to take the children with him as the officials told her to return to her parents’ house in Meerut and wait for new guidelines. Sana’s is not the only case.

The NDTV report further said that like Sana, there were many mothers who had to leave their children with their fathers across the border in Pakistan.

India had revoked visas in all 12 categories in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack that killed 27 people in Baisaran valley. The deadline for all Pakistani nationals ends tonight. All states have been directed to identify and deport Pakistani nationals. A PTI report said that around 800 Indians have also returned from Pakistan.
