The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released data for when the monsoon is expected to reach major cities across the country.
The weather office reports that as of May 13, the southwest monsoon has already begun to move into areas of the Nicobar Islands, the Andaman Sea, and the south Bay of Bengal. Now, the circumstances are favorable for it to continue moving forward over the coming days.
As per the IMD, between June 10 to 15, Mumbai and Kolkata can expect the monsoon. For Hyderabad, the monsoon is expected to arrive between June 5 to 10. Bengaluru and Chennai can expect the rains between June 1 to 5, while in Delhi, it is expected to receive monsoon rain between June 25 to 30.
Ahmedabad is likely to see monsoon from June 15 to 20, and Jaipur will receive the rains between June 25 to 30.
On Wednesday, May 14, IMD clarified that there is no such cyclone has been forecast. The weather office has denied the various media reports about the formation of 'Cyclone Shakti'. According to IMD, there was only the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea, not a Cyclonic storm.
On May 13, the IMD said, "An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over the Andaman Sea between 1.5 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height at 0300 UTC of today, 13th May, 2025."
