Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd has inaugurated a new automotive lighting facility through its joint venture, Marelli Motherson Automotive Lighting India Pvt Ltd (MMLI), in Sanand, Gujarat, according to an exchange filing.
MMLI is a strategic joint venture between the company and Marelli Europe S.p.A., with Motherson holding a 50% equity stake, the filing said.
The newly operational plant, spread across 8,200 square metres, is dedicated exclusively to manufacturing advanced exterior lighting systems. It houses high-tonnage multi-colour moulding machines ranging from 2,000T to 2,700T and is the first facility in India capable of producing edge-to-edge, single-piece long lighting components.
The company said the plant marks key milestones for the domestic industry, including localisation of the slimmest headlamp module and enabling the country’s first single-piece, end-to-end Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Rear Combination Lamps (RCL).
In line with its sustainability focus, the facility features rooftop solar power, with plans underway to source additional green power through open access, the filing added.
Commenting on the development, Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson, said the inauguration underscores the group’s commitment to innovation and customer-centricity while strengthening its ability to deliver advanced lighting solutions. Frank Huber, President of Marelli’s Lighting business, said the Sanand plant marks a key milestone in bringing advanced lighting technologies to customers in India, combining global innovation with strong local manufacturing capabilities.
Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd ended 1.08% higher at ₹130.82 on the NSE on Monday.
