Muharram 2025: Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, marks the Islamic New Year and is one of Islam's four sacred months. In India, Muharram's observance might fall on July 6 or July 7, 2025, depending on the moon sighting. Although July 6 is expected for the Muharram holiday, the date could shift to July 7 if the new moon isn't sighted accordingly. The confirmation will depend on lunar sighting. 

Muharram is a public holiday in India, resulting in closures of schools, banks, government offices, and some private businesses. Moreover, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be shut. 

Most government holiday calendars currently mark Muharram on July 6. However, if the moon isn’t sighted as expected, the observance may shift to July 7, accordingly affecting school and office closures in many states.
