Muhurat Trading 2025: Every Diwali, the stock market observes a unique tradition called Muhurat Trading, a one-hour session considered highly auspicious for investors. Beyond the rituals and festivities, this special trading window is a blend of heritage, discipline, and financial opportunity.

But what exactly makes Muhurat Trading so important, and should you participate this year? Let’s break it down.

Traditionally, Muhurat Trading linked to worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. For traders and investors, it is seen as a way to start the new financial year on a positive note, seeking blessings for success and growth.

Renowned author Amish Tripathi explains that Muhurat Trading has historical and practical significance.

“Our calendar is based on both the sun and the moon. That’s why it is very scientific and precise, unlike the Western Gregorian calendar, which is just solar-based,” he says.

Traders historically aligned new ventures and accounting practices with this period, ensuring a prosperous beginning.

While Muhurat Trading is symbolic, experts say it also teaches important lessons for investors.

Tripathi notes the importance of emotional discipline, “In greed, people make mistakes. The price has risen a lot, so greed prompts them to buy. In fear, people miss opportunities. You can’t trade well if your emotions are swinging.”

He also emphasizes moderation and restraint, quoting Lord Krishna, “Ati sarvatra varjit, extremism of any kind should be avoided. Stay in control, keep restraint, then you will do good trading.”

The festival’s symbolism goes beyond just buying stocks. Tripathi explains, “In Goddess Lakshmi’s idol, the pot of gold is falling outward. That means give charity. If you just keep it tight, Lakshmi doesn’t like it.”

Muhurat Trading, the special one-hour session on Diwali, will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. This year, the session timing has been shifted to the afternoon from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, instead of the usual evening slot.

Before the main session, a block deal session will take place from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by a special pre-open session from 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM.

The one-hour Muhurat trading session is considered an auspicious way to begin the Hindu calendar year. Trades executed during this period will carry regular settlement obligations, meaning all deliveries and payments for buyers and sellers will be handled just like on a normal trading day.

Both the NSE and BSE will follow the same schedule, with a pre-open session starting at 1:30 PM leading into the Muhurat session from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM.

The MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange) will also observe special Muhurat trading on October 21, 2025.

For MCX, the pre-open session will run from 1:30 PM to 1:44 PM, followed by the Muhurat trading window from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM. During this one-hour session, all indices and commodities will be tradable. Client code modifications will be accepted until 3:00 PM.

For NCDEX, the schedule is similar. The pre-trade session will take place from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by the Muhurat trading session from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM.
