The government has launched a new Aadhaar mobile application which enables citizens to verify their identity in a faster and safer and more convenient way.
The app enables users to store their digital identity on their phones which they can display whenever necessary without needing to present physical identification cards or photocopies.
The app helps to streamline identity verification processes which take place at airports and hotels and hospitals and service platforms.
The system provides quick hotel check-in processes through its main function which uses QR codes for authentication when people do not have internet access.
Users can also choose to share only the information needed for a particular purpose such as age verification for booking cinema tickets.
Another notable feature is mandatory face verification which enables the system to verify that the person presenting the Aadhaar document is the actual account holder.
Users of the app can control their biometric access through a single button which allows them to see their Aadhaar authentication records and manage multiple Aadhaar profiles on their device with the 'One Family–One App' feature.
Through the app, residents have the ability to change their registered mobile number and current address details. The process enables people to complete minor updates without going to physical locations of banks and Aadhaar centres.
The government has announced that they will introduce additional updating methods for their services at a later date, IANS reported.
The new application emphasizes its security features together with its privacy protections. Agencies will share data without storing Aadhaar numbers since they will exchange only digitally signed verified data.
The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act requires this method to reduce misuse dangers according to its established guidelines.
An official explained that the app was developed to provide users of all age groups with simple navigation. “The app supports real-life use cases such as hotel check-ins through QR code scanning, optional face verification, age verification for cinema tickets, hospital admissions for visitors and attendants, and verification of gig workers and service partners,” the official said.
Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and IT, launched the application which was developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
The app allows users to share only necessary information for specific services according to S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Senior UIDAI officials called the app a significant step in moving from a paper-based system to a paperless identity ecosystem. The system allows residents to share specific identity details through customized QR codes which authorized entities create.
The government aims to achieve smoother identity verification processes through the new Aadhaar application which will decrease paperwork requirements and improve data protection for all citizens.
