'Not true': Turkiye refutes reports claiming it sent six planes full of weapons to Pakistan

Turkiye on Monday clarified that six planes carrying weapons were sent to Pakistan, amid the ongoing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad over the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

The country's Directorate of Communications Center for Countering Disinformation shared a statement on X saying, “The claims circulating in some media outlets that ‘Türkiye sent six planes full of weapons to Pakistan’ are not true.”

According to the statement, a transport aircraft departing from Türkiye made a scheduled landing in Pakistan solely for refueling purposes. “After refueling, the aircraft continued its journey along its designated route,” the authorities noted.

The clarification by Turkish authorities comes amid the country facing backlash in India over reports of sending arms and ammunition to Pakistan. Several experts and commentators took to social media and reacted sharply to the development, calling for a nationwide boycott of Turkish tourism and airlines.

Notably, on the day of attack (April 22), Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raked up the 'Kashmir issue' at the heels of the tragedy during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

Hours after the heinous attack, Sharif, during a joint press conference with Erdogan in Ankara, thanked Turkey for its "unwavering support" on Kashmir.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have surged following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.

The attack, which was claimed by The Resistance Front, a proxy outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), lays bare the deeply entrenched terror infrastructure that continues to operate with impunity on Pakistani soil.
