The news follows the enacting of Online Gaming law, which bans real-money games such as fantasy sports — both skill based and luck based. The law also bans advertising, promotion and sponsorship of such platforms. In other words, this also renders Dream11’s association with the country’s cricket legally untenable.
The developments comes as the country awaits the onset of the Asia Cup on September 9, which leaves BCCI with limited time to arrange a new sponsor.
In 2023, Dream11 signed a three-year agreement with the BCCI to feature its logo on the national team's jerseys.

The newly-enacted law also has provisions for strict action against entities not in compliance with the rules.
Last week, sports technology firm Dream Sports — which owns and operates Dream11 — vowed to fully comply with the law, announcing its decision to stop all paid contests on Dream11.
"We will respect the law and will fully comply with the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Law, 2025,” Dream Sports wrote on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter).
Going forward, Dream Sports said it will lean on its wider portfolio to drive growth, including FanCode, DreamSetGo and Dream Game Studios.
Dream Sports also said it backs Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to make India "a global sporting superpower".
