In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have shut down access to nearly 50 public parks and gardens across the Valley, citing heightened threat perceptions and ongoing security operations.

Officials on Tuesday confirmed that 48 out of 87 designated tourist parks and gardens in Kashmir have been closed as a precautionary measure. While no formal notification has been issued, entry gates to these locations have been locked and tourist movement restricted.

The spots affected are largely in remote or sensitive regions of the Valley, including several destinations that gained popularity in the past decade. Among them are Dooshpathri, Kokernag, Duksum, Sinthan Top, Acchabal, Bangus Valley, Margan Top, and Tosamaidan.

In parts of South Kashmir, access to iconic Mughal Gardens has also been restricted. Officials say the list of closed destinations could expand further, depending on the evolving security assessment.

The sweeping move follows the April 22 terror strike at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, which marked the deadliest attack on civilians in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
