According to Dawn News, data from international agencies reveals that most Afghans who left Pakistan in April were undocumented, with the UNHCR reporting that 72% lacked documentation. The UNHCR noted that over 144,500 Afghans returned to their country in April, marking the highest number since September 2023. Separately, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) reported similar trends, noting a high percentage of undocumented individuals leaving Pakistan between April 20 and 26.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has voiced concerns about the safety of religious minorities returning to Afghanistan under Taliban rule. USCIRF Chair Stephen Schneck stated that the situation in Afghanistan remains dire for those not adhering to the Taliban's strict interpretation of Islam. Since March 2025, Pakistan has expelled approximately 80,000 Afghans as part of its repatriation campaign that began in October 2023.

Dawn News reports that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become the primary cause of mortality in Pakistan, exceeding communicable diseases since 2010. Deaths from NCDs have surged from an estimated 426,809 in 1990 to 830,172 in 2019. The rise in NCDs is attributed to lifestyle choices, environmental factors, and genetics, with smoking, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and air pollution being major contributors.

The article emphasizes the need for preventative policies, regulatory interventions, and public education to address the NCD epidemic in Pakistan. It calls for stricter control of the tobacco and fast-food industries and increased investment in healthcare and public awareness to promote healthier lifestyles, Dawn News reports.

Dawn News reports that, due to improved hydrological conditions, Irsa met on Monday to review the water situation and finalize anticipated availability for the remaining Kharif 2025 season. The decision comes after a previous advisory committee meeting on March 26, where a 43% water shortage was estimated, leading to delayed sowing and minimum water allocations for provinces.

The water storage in reservoirs has since improved, and Irsa has already increased provincial water shares, raising hopes for better cotton sowing. Irrigation and agriculture secretaries from the four provinces, Wapda members, the chief engineering advisor, and the chairman of the Federal Flood Commission were invited to the meeting, as reported by Dawn News.
