The Patna High Court on Wednesday directed the Congress party to delete a controversial AI-generated video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, from all social media platforms. The 36-second clip, uploaded on 10 September by the Bihar Congress unit, sparked widespread criticism and has now been ordered removed by Acting Chief Justice PB Bajantri, according to ANI.
The 36-second clip, posted on 10 September by the Bihar Congress unit, carried a label stating “AI GENERATED”. It showed the Prime Minister dreaming of his mother criticising his political style in election-bound Bihar. The High Court said the video defames the dignity of Heeraben Modi and motherhood, and directed its deletion from every platform.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) condemned the video, calling it “shameful” and accusing Congress of resorting to personal attacks in the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections. BJP leaders said the clip was not satire but a deliberate provocation aimed at maligning the Prime Minister.

The Congress party denied any disrespect towards PM Modi or his mother, arguing that the post was political commentary and had been clearly labelled as AI-generated. The Bihar unit insisted it was intended as creative criticism, not a personal affront.
On September 13, Delhi Police registered a case against Congress and its IT cell after a complaint by Sanket Gupta, convenor of the BJP Delhi Election Cell. Filed at North Avenue police station, the FIR described the video as defamatory and offensive to the dignity of Heeraben Modi and motherhood in general.
This is the second controversy in just over a month involving the Prime Minister’s late mother. On August 27, during a Congress–Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) rally in Darbhanga, offensive slogans against PM Modi and Heeraben Modi were allegedly raised. The Prime Minister condemned the incident as “unimaginable” and “an insult to all mothers, sisters and daughters”, stressing that his mother had never been part of politics.
