A WhatsApp message claiming that the Indian government is providing free laptops to students as part of a nationwide scheme is fraudulent, the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check team (PIB Fact Check) informed.

Users are being misinformed by scammers who say that the Indian government is giving away free computers to students. They claim that by registering on an official website and supplying specific personal information, people can benefit from this deal. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), PIB wrote, "A message is being circulated on WhatsApp with a link claiming that the central government is providing free laptops to students.

But PIB Fact Check used social media to refute the claim, calling it a hoax and cautioning people against clicking on the phony link in the post.

The public is recommended to follow official channels for announcements and only visit government websites that ending in ".gov.in" for verified information.
