Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is expected to travel to Washington next week for high-level India-US trade talks, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) sources cited by Zee Business. His visit comes soon after a day-long round of discussions in New Delhi between US Chief Negotiator Brendan Lynch and India’s Additional Secretary Rajesh Agrawal on the proposed bilateral trade agreement.
Sources said an Indian delegation may leave for Washington by the end of next week. Goyal's visit is expected to focus on reducing tariffs, improving market access and building consensus on a broader trade framework. Sources described the negotiations so far as moving "in the right direction".
In addition to trade, talks on the P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft deal are also under way. Boeing is currently in financial negotiations with India’s Ministry of Defence to finalise procurement and cost-sharing terms. MEA officials indicated that these discussions are progressing positively. Goyal's likely visit signals New Delhi’s push to accelerate both trade and defence cooperation with Washington.
