Police case filed against Vijay Deverakonda for comments 'demeaning' Adivasis, links Pahalgam attack with tribal clashes

A police complaint has been filed against Indian actor and film producer Vijay Deverakonda for making controversial comments at the promotional event of Suriya's Retro movie.

Known to have an unapologetic self from the past, now the Dear Comrade actor has gotten himself into some legal trouble for making statements which have reportedly offended the Adivasi community.

According to a report in Telugu Chitraalu a lawyer Kishan Lal Chauhan has filed a case against Devarakonda with the SR Nagar police station in Hyderabad. The actor made a speech during the pre-release event for Retro, where he compared contemporary socio-political turmoil to tribal clashes that happened 500 years ago.

The complainant mentioned the Vijay's statement on the Pahalgam terror assault compared the attacks to fights between tribal communities hundreds of years ago.

Tribal associations condemned Vijay's statement and have raised an objection to it. The organisations have sought an apology from the actor for demeaning them.

As a police probe is on now, Vijay Devarakonda is yet to make any statement about the whole controversy.

What did Vijay say

Vijay said and we quote: “The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don’t get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours.”

He then went on to add: "India doesn’t even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. Asalu 500 years back tribals kokkutunnatu, veelu buddi lekunda, minimum common sense lekunda chese panulu. (They behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense).”

On April 22, a terrorist attack on tourists in a meadow in Pahalgam, Kashmir, killed 26 tourists and wounded many more.

Numerous celebrities have also stepped out to denounce the incident and urge the government to take harsh measures against the perpetrators. In his remarks, Vijay mentioned visiting Pahalgam while filming Kushi two years ago.
