The air quality in the Delhi-NCR region has now reached the “Severe” and "Very poor" category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. When pollution levels rise to the Very Poor or Severe range, people face serious health problems, from breathing difficulties to eye irritation and heart problems.
The data of Air Quality Index (AQI) shows, various cities in the region of Delhi-NCR like Chandni Chowk, Ashok Vihar, Alipur and Loni faced a deteriorated air that day, experienced significantly worsened air quality on that day.
After Diwali, the air quality in Delhi-NCR took a hit. Some areas recorded very high pollution levels, while a few places fared slightly better. Looking at the AQI trends in the days following the festival, you can clearly see the real impact of the celebrations on the city’s air.
Delhi
Ashok Vihar: During Diwali, the AQI had soared to 406, putting it in the severe category. Even now, it remains at 380, which still falls under the very poor range.
Chandni Chowk: On October 20, the air quality was recorded as Very Poor with an AQI of 339. Today, it has improved slightly, dropping by 7 points.
Alipur: On Diwali, the AQI was recorded at 319, and today it has come down slightly by 1 point.
Dwarka-Sector 8: On Diwali, the AQI was recorded at 363, and it has now improved slightly to 351.
Vivek Vihar: An AQI with 355 was recorded on Diwali celebration and Today increased by 372.
Rohini: On Diwali it was 384 and today at 373.
Patparganj: On Diwali the AQI recorded in very poor category with 370 and today increased by 7 points, leading towards severe category.
RK Puram: On Diwali day it was 387 with no change till today. RK Puram may fall soon under severe category.
NCR
Sector 125, Noida: On Diwali the AQI was recorded at 312 and today it is 304.
Sector 116, Noida: On Diwali, the AQI was recorded at 369 and today increased 8 points. Both falls under very poor category.
Loni, Ghaziabad: On Diwali the AQI was recorded at 294, and today it is 324, showing very poor AQI of the city.
