Pre-market Update (August 6): Indian markets likely to open lower; GIFT Nifty down 17 points at 24,690

Published on 06/08/2025 08:33 AM

Pre-market update: Indian equity benchmarks are likely to open lower on Wednesday, tracking weak global cues and growing geopolitical tensions. At 7:38 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were quoting 17 points lower at 24,690, indicating a soft start for domestic equities.

Sentiment remains fragile after former US President Donald Trump threatened to sharply raise tariffs on India within the next 24 hours, citing its continued import of Russian oil. He also labelled India “not a good trading partner,” adding to investor jitters.

Back home, all eyes will be on the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision today. While the central bank is widely expected to maintain status quo on interest rates, markets will closely track commentary around inflation and global trade risks.
