Pre-market Update: GIFT Nifty hints at negative start for the indices amid mixed global cues

Published on 23/09/2025 08:31 AM

Pre-market Update: Equity benchmarks are expected to open on a weak note on Tuesday as sentiment remains cautious after US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new H-1B visa fee rule. Investors will also be watching Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Washington for trade negotiations — the first since the Trump administration imposed 50 per cent tariffs — for cues on bilateral trade relations.

At 8:10 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were trading 36.5 points lower at 25,252, indicating a negative start for the benchmark indices.

Despite muted sentiment in India, broader Asian equities were in positive territory. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index was up 1 per cent, while South Korea’s KOSPI gained 0.4 per cent in early trade, supported by overnight gains in US technology shares.
