Pre-market Update: Markets set for positive open on global strength

Published on 12/09/2025 08:59 AM

Indian stocks are expected to start Friday’s session higher, tracking firm global cues and growing hopes of a US Federal Reserve rate cut next week. At 8:20 a.m., GIFT Nifty futures were up 74 points at 25,179, signalling a positive opening for the Nifty 50.

Global cues upbeat

Asian equities were trading in the green, mirroring overnight strength on Wall Street. The CSI 300 in mainland China edged up 0.01 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.65 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.56 per cent and South Korea’s KOSPI advanced 1.15 per cent.

Overnight in the US, all three major indices closed at record highs — the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.36 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite 0.72 per cent and the S&P 500 0.85 per cent. August CPI rose 0.4 per cent month-on-month versus the 0.3 per cent expected, and 2.9 per cent year-on-year in line with forecasts. But a surprise jump in weekly jobless claims to 263,000 — the highest since October 2021 — added to bets of a Fed cut.

Domestic triggers

Infosys will be in focus after its board approved a Rs 18,000-crore share buyback at Rs 1,800 apiece, representing 10 crore shares or 2.41 per cent of equity. Analysts expect active trade in the stock at the open.

Primary market activity will also be busy. Urban Co., Dev Accelerator and Shringar House of Mangalsutra IPOs close for subscription today. In the SME segment, the basis of allotment for Taurian MPS, Karbonsteel Engineering, Nilachal Carbo Metalicks and Krupalu Metals will be finalised. Shares of Sharvaya Metals, Vigor Plast India and Austere Systems are slated to list.
