Railtel Corporation's shares rose over 12 percent following its March-quarter earnings that saw the Navratna railway PSU deliver a strong 46.3 percent on year growth in net profit.

Railtel Corp's net profit for the March quarter reached Rs 113.4 crore from Rs 77.53 crore a year ago, reflecting a strong operational execution and improved business momentum. RailTel’s operating income saw a sharp increase of 57 percent on-year, reaching Rs 1,308.28 crore in the March quarter compared to Rs 832.7 crore a year ago.

The company’s profitability at the operating level also improved, with Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) growing 53.8 percent to Rs 180 crore in Q4FY25. However, even with this growth, the EBITDA margin slipped slightly to 13.73 percent, down by 27 basis points from that of 14 percent in the corresponding quarter last year. This can be attributed to an 86 percent rise in expenses resulting from projects executed in the same quarter last year.

As of March 2024, around 3.68 lakh small shareholders — those holding shares worth up to Rs 2 lakh — collectively owned a 16 percent stake in the company. This marked a decline from the end of the December quarter, when 5.3 lakh such shareholders held a combined 20.11 percent stake.
