Suriya is ready to helm the silver screen with his upcoming romantic-action flick Retro, helmed by popular filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. Featuring Pooja Hegde as the leading lady, the S. Radhakrishna-produced produced is all set to hit the silver screens on May 1, 2025, and initial reports from the advance bookings seem to be very positive.

Fox Star’s Retro Collects Rs 5.80 Cr as Pre-Sales for Vey Opening Weekend

Pre-sale tickets for Retro began on April 27, 2025, with the film experiencing a huge uptick in ticket sales. In a matter of hours, Retro went on to sell over 1.75 lakh tickets across Tamil Nadu and made about Rs 3.15 crore for just its opening-day collections, with two days still left for its release.

As of 12:30 PM today, Retro has managed to garner a thunderous pre-release figure of Rs 5.80 crore for its 4-day opening long weekend. Given the pace it has been growing at, it should comfortably cross the Rs 6 crore-mark before the day is through. Over the days to come, the film has already had earnings of Rs 90 lakh for both Friday and Saturday, and of Rs 85 lakh on Sunday.

Positive Buzz Surrounds Retro

The overwhelming positive buzz has really helped in its advance booking. FC. With an engaging teaser and trailer to its credit to some peppy numbers, Retro has hit a chord with the viewers, piquing the curiosity and the excitement factor of viewers watching out for the release.

Suriya has been struggling at the box office in recent years with Kanguva and Etharkkum Thunindhavan failing to live up to expectations. But if Retro continues its buzz and garners impressive word of mouth once it's released, it might be the sign of a more powerful comeback for the showbiz giant.

Retro to Release Nationwide
