RR vs MI, IPL 2025 Highlights: Five-time champions Mumbai Indians brought their A game to the table with a clinical 100-run victory against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.

Chasing a 218-run target, the Royals were bundled out for 117 in 16.1 overs as MI kept their record of never losing an IPL game while defending a 200-plus target intact. This was the 17th time that MI have done so.

Here are the five points that enabled MI to register their sixth win on the trot to rise to the top of the points table:

Ryan Rickelton’s top notch knock:

Ryan Rickelton top scored for MI with a quickfire knock of a 38-ball 61. Rickelton smashed 3 sixes and 7 fours in his knock, while putting up a 116-run stand with Rohit Sharma in 10.1 overs.

Rickelton brought up his half-century off 29 balls getting to the mark – his third in this season – with a six off Kumar Kartikeya in the ninth over of the match.

Rohit Sharma continues blazing form:

Things are getting good for MI and one of them is Rohit Sharma’s comeback to form. The former captain crossed the 6000-run mark for MI as he raced to his fifty off 31 balls.

Rohit smashed 9 fours in his 36-ball 53 before he was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Riyan Parag. It was the MI opening pair of Rickelton and Rohit that set the stage for a big score.

Rickelton and Rohit began steadily, but the boundaries began to flow as soon as they got used to the surface. Only 58 runs were scored during the powerplay, but the pace increased when the openers reached their individual fifties and added a 116-run partnership before falling in consecutive overs.

Suryakumar Yadav’s blazing knock:

One of the main reasons for the MI resurgence late in the tournament has been the powerful strokeplay of Suryakumar Yadav, who arrived at the crease at the dismissal of Rickelton and got down to business with a flurry of boundaries from the word go.

SKY smashed 3 sixes and 4 fours in his unbeaten 23-ball 48 and took the MI score over the 200-run mark with his captain Hardik Pandya. With 475 runs from 11 matches, SKY became the leading run-scorer in this edition for now.

Hardik Pandya leads from the front:

MI captain Hardik Pandya matched SKY stroke for stroke sending the Royals bowlers on a leather hunt. Pandya slammed a six and 6 fours in his unbeaten 23-ball 48, identical to SKY, as both batsmen smashed 71 runs from the last 5 overs.

This was the first time in an IPL inning that four batters scored 45-plus runs and MI’s 217/2 tied with SRH’s 217/6 in 2023, for the highest total at Jaipur.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s duck:

That cricket is a game of uncertainties, Vaibhav Suryavanshi learned it the hard way. Flying high after his glorious record-breaking hundred in the last game against Gujarat Titans, the teenager was brought back down to earth as he registered a second-ball duck against MI.

The Royals needed a brisk start to their run chase and the 14-year-old Royals opener held the key for that, but that was not to be as Suryavanshi fell on the fourth ball of the run chase.

Deepak Chahar bowled a full delivery and Suryavanshi went for a big shot. But the bat turned in his hand and he mistimed it to mid-on for Will Jacks to take a good catch on the edge of the circle at mid-on.

As the MI cricketers celebrated the wicket, a shell-shocked Suryavanshi stood there with his hands on his hips, before walking off. The Royals never recovered from that and were bundled out for 117 in 16.1 overs.
