“I mean, it’s more to do with Tata Sons’ listing and the value unlocking for Tata Chemicals if it goes through. Otherwise, the business per se for soda ash has not been doing well for the last two years, and the difficulty continues. As the numbers suggest, on a standalone basis they would be reporting losses, and it continues to remain under pressure. Also for Rallis it was a very muted kind of growth that the management has come out with. Though, situationally, it looks better compared to last year’s numbers, the company is still in losses. Given the kind of environment prevailing, one has to wait and watch. The management did sound confident, but just on the business per se, I wouldn’t be buying Tata Chemicals. However, if somebody is looking for a trade on the prospects of value unlocking from Tata Sons’ listing, then it may make some sense.”
