Market Watch: Prakash Diwan, Market Expert
On JK Cement & India Cements: I would go with something which is more tested and tried like JK Cement compared to India Cements on the basis of earnings at least, and I continue to like some of the other names like Shree Cement, ACC also because those are much more resilient plays once the industry starts getting rerated on the volumes.
Karan Taurani, EVP, Elara Capital on Jio: The key thing to watch out here, in terms of numbers, would be the performance of JioMart. So JioMart, on a small base, has grown well, they continue to focus in terms of the non-metro market. Quick commerce will scale up in the non-metro markets also eventually, and there JioMart could have an edge. Execution is a key here in terms of how they execute JioMart through the network of Reliance Retail, because they’ve got more than 2,000 grocery stores. That’s one category which is very important in terms of how things pan out from here on. In terms of the other digital businesses, if you look at the white goods business, if you look at Ajio, they stay double digit, and the momentum continues over there.
Gaurav Malhotra, Exec Dir, Axis Cap on Jio: Jio was a very good set of numbers. If you see across the board the net additions are very strong, the highest across the industry. ARPU, there was an uptake, both on the fact that this quarter had one additional day, but there was also some premiumisation happening. Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) that is going very good. The company has almost an 80% market share there. Lastly, on the operating side, also, we also saw a healthy margin expansion. On the whole, there’s nothing to complain about, the stock, the company is doing quite well, both across operating as well as financial parameters.
Probal Sen, Energy Analyst, ICICI Sec on O2C: The impact of the 21-day shutdown was perhaps underestimated to a certain extent. If you look at petrochemicals, in fact, quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), most of the product spreads have improved. Even in refining, there seems to be a little bit of traction because of diesel inventories being lower than the US driving season, likely to provide some incentive. I think long-term prospects remain a bit uncertain. Nobody knows where the cycle will end up, both in refining and petchem. But as far as this quarter’s numbers go, people will shrug it off because there was a one-off. And what would be more interesting is to see the second and third quarter numbers. If there is some recovery that happens in refining as well as petchem remaining steady itself, it will provide some traction. So, I wouldn’t be too worried about the miss, at least in this quarter.
