On Tuesday, April 7, shares of Vedanta Ltd. and Hindalco Industries Ltd. are under scrutiny as broking company JPMorgan became optimistic about Indian aluminium firms.

Key expectations from the MPC meet – 

(1) RBI might make small downward adjustment to FY27 growth forecast (10 -30bps) and push inflation forecast higher (30-50bps).

(2) We think relatively contained inflation trajectory and the uncertainty around growth creates space to keeps rates and stance on hold.

(3) Reiteration of “neutral” stance will provide the flexibility to act in either direction.

(4) RBI might continue to assure the markets of ample liquidity without any explicit mention of instruments.

(5) A strong message around the “readiness to act” if required, along with a sense of calm could have a better impact on market sentiment rather than a bold action right now.

Key hawkish signals could be –

(1) Any arguments around persistent inflationary shock and consequently below neutral real rates,

(2) comments around interest rate defence of currency and

(3) tying up any liquidity absorption measure to the upward adjustment in inflation forecasts.
