Top sources with knowledge of the situation told CNBC-TV18 that Atanu Chakraborty’s resignation as part-time chairman of HDFC Bank had nothing to do with the bank’s actions or any regulatory issues.

 

On Thursday, March 19, shares of HDFC Bank Ltd., one of the largest components of the Nifty 50 and Nifty Bank index, will be under scrutiny following the resignation of Atanu Chakraborty, the bank’s independent director and part-time chairman, and the appointment of Keki Mistry, the company’s former CEO, as the interim part-time chairman with Reserve Bank of India approval.

 

A rise in oil prices, the Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance, and worse economic data were the three main causes of Wednesday’s decline in Wall Street benchmark indices.

 

Early trading on Thursday saw a decline in Asian stocks as oil prices rose as a result of attacks on crucial energy infrastructure amid an escalating crisis in the Middle East.
