Microfinance Sector Sees Improving Credit Quality, Liquidity Challenges Remain

Alok Misra, CEO & Director, MFIN:Credit quality has improved, though disbursements have declined due to a sharp fall in liquidity.Liquidity remains critical; 1–60 days past due (dpd) stands at around 2.5%, difficult to reduce without adequate funding.JLG average ticket size is around ₹50,000, which is unsecured, but the model reduces operational costs and plays a vital role in the sector. No major issues in Tamil Nadu, while elevated stress in Karnataka was observed from January to April.Credit cost is tapering down gradually.Jinay Gala, Director, India Ratings & Research:The segment experienced peak stress in Q3/Q4 FY25, now stabilizing at current levels.Q2 is typically seasonal due to the monsoon, potentially impacting MFI collections.Slight increases in PAR are possible, varying by player.Mid and small-sized MFIs remain a concern, with challenges mainly around disbursements.Debt funding has slowed, and banks are cautious in buying MFI portfolios, reducing liquidity for MFI-NBFCs.The peak of MFI stress is behind, but mid-sized NBFCs may still face credit cost shocks.

Vodafone Idea slides nearly 2%, over 4% off session highs

Deven Choksey, MD, DRChoksey Finserv:On Titan: Titan always remain a premium valuation company and that limits the upside or the headroom, as we call it, for the investors. So, one will have to wait before buying good quality business. If one gets at a quality valuation or rather bargain valuations, that would be more appropriate to buy into this company. On Real Estate: If one has to look at real estate a bit more systematically and minutely, the luxury and the ultra-luxury segment is likely to see higher amount of growth because over there the supply is relatively less, and at the same time because of higher amount of wealth generating proposition in the hands of family, offices and individuals, you are probably going to see a larger amount of demand scenario for ultra and super ultra-real estate plays. So, we are more confident in that particular space vis-à-vis mass housing and the premium housing space in the real estate.
