Smallcap, Midcap shares rally today: Shares of several smallcap and midcap companies were in demand on Friday morning, lifting the broader market indices into the green for a seventh straight session even as the benchmark Sensex and Nifty edged lower.
At 10:30 a.m., the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was up more than 0.7 per cent at 18,117.50, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index gained around 0.3 per cent to 58,378.80. In contrast, the Sensex dipped to 81,897.10 and the Nifty50 to 25,100.30.
Vodafone Idea shares jumped more than 6 per cent to Rs 8.12 apiece after reports that the Supreme Court will hear the telecom company’s plea on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) relief on September 19. The debt-laden operator has challenged an additional Rs 9,450-crore AGR demand by the Department of Telecommunications, saying it exceeds the scope of the court’s earlier ruling.

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) climbed over 4 per cent each. HUDCO rose more than 3 per cent, while Tube Investments of India and Cochin Shipyard added nearly 3 per cent.
Other notable midcap movers included NHPC, CONCOR, Suzlon Energy, Sona Comstar, SJVN, Tata Communications, NTPC Green, Tata Technologies and Yes Bank, all rising up to 2 per cent.
On the smallcap index, Anant Raj was the biggest gainer, jumping around 8 per cent to Rs 574. RailTel Corporation of India and IRCON surged more than 7 per cent each, tracking strength across railway stocks.
Aegis Logistics gained over 6 per cent, while IFCI, ITI and CESC added around 5 per cent. Welspun Corp climbed 4 per cent and Jupiter Wagons, Titagarh Rail Systems and RITES advanced up to 4 per cent. Radico Khaitan, NBCC, Inox Wind, Tata Chemicals and Ramco Cements rose about 2 per cent each, while Indian Energy Exchange, IKS, Hindustan Copper and Amber Enterprises gained more than 1 per cent.
