Stock Market Closing Bell: Indian equity benchmarks snapped their recent losing streak to end Friday’s session on a strong note, with the Nifty reclaiming the 25,900 mark on December 19, supported by broad-based buying across sectors and outperformance in the broader market.
The BSE Sensex settled at 84,929.36, rising 447.55 points, or 0.53 per cent, while the NSE Nifty 50 ended 150.85 points higher at 25,966.40, marking a gain of 0.58 per cent.
The rally was led by select heavyweights, with Shriram Finance, Max Healthcare, Bharat Electronics, Power Grid Corporation and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles emerging as the top gainers on the Nifty. On the flip side, HCL Technologies, Adani Enterprises, Hindalco Industries, JSW Steel and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories weighed on the index.
Sectorally, sentiment remained positive as all sectoral indices closed in the green. Auto, pharma, oil & gas, realty, telecom and healthcare stocks advanced in the range of 0.5–1 per cent, reflecting sustained buying interest across cyclicals and defensives.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices, with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gaining about 1 per cent each, indicating improved risk appetite and participation beyond index heavyweights.
