In a cross-border share agreement valued at €7.9 billion ($9.2 billion), Akzo Nobel NV has agreed to buy smaller competitor paint manufacturer Axalta Coating Systems Ltd.
The deal, which validated a previous Bloomberg News report, comes after multiple attempts by the paint manufacturers Dulux and Cromax to merge. A prior attempt failed in 2017 when negotiations broke down due to the parties’ inability to reach an agreement.
