Stock Market Holiday: Indian stock markets are taking a festive pause today, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) remain closed for Diwali Balipratipada.
After the special Muhurat trading session on Diwali Laxmi Pujan, investors get another day’s break as markets celebrate the traditional Balipratipada, marking the end of Diwali festivities.
The holiday, also known as Bali Padyami or Bali Pratipada, symbolizes the victory of Lord Vishnu over King Bali and is widely celebrated across Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat.
Trading in equity, derivatives, and commodity markets will remain suspended for the day. The break applies to both cash and derivatives segments, with no settlements or transactions processed today.
Normal trading will resume on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when investors return after the festive break.
Both exchanges, NSE and BSE, publish their annual holiday list at the beginning of each year, aligning closures with major national and religious occasions.
