This marks the second stock market holiday in August, following the Independence Day closure earlier this month. Trading will be suspended across all segments, including equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB) and electronic gold receipts (EGR) on August 27.
The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is widely celebrated across Maharashtra. It’s a public holiday in the state. So, stock markets will also remain closed on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Other than public holidays, bourses also remain shut on Saturdays and Sundays due to regular non-trading days during the weekends.
The Sensex closed 1.04% lower at 80,786.54, while the Nifty50 dropped 1.02% to settle at 24,712.05 on Tuesday, August 26.
Stock Market Holidays In 2025
As many as 14 trading holidays are scheduled in 2025, as per the NSE calendar. The market holidays for the remaining months of the year are as follows:
● Aug. 27 – Ganesh Chaturthi
● Oct. 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra
● Oct. 21 – Diwali Laxmi Pujan
● Oct. 22 – Balipratipada
● Nov. 5 – Prakash Gurpurab (Sri Guru Nanak Dev)
● Dec. 25 – Christmas
Even though the stock market will observe a holiday on Oct. 21 for Diwali, investors can still look forward to the traditional Muhurat Trading session. This symbolic, one-hour trading window takes place every Diwali.
