The official stock market holiday for Diwali will be observed tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in observance of Lakshmi Puja.

However, this day will also host the special Muhurat Trading session, a traditional one-hour trading window that marks the beginning of the new Samvat year and invites prosperity and good fortune into investors’ portfolios.

Muhurat Trading has been a cherished tradition in Indian stock markets since 1957. Investors with active demat accounts can participate, with no minimum or maximum order size, making it possible to buy even a single stock.

Stocks can be chosen according to personal financial goals, allowing investors to start the new year with meaningful investments.

The Muhurat Trading session will run from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a 15-minute pre-open session from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm. Post-close modifications can be done until 2:55 pm on both exchanges.

Investors should note that all equity delivery orders placed on Monday, October 20 Monday) and Tuesday, October 21 (during Muhurat Trading) will be settled on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as Wednesday, October 22, will also be a market holiday for Diwali Balipratipada.

Looking ahead, the next stock market holiday will be on November 5, 2025, for Prakash Gurpurab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and the last market holiday of the year will fall on December 25, 2025, for Christmas.

Meanwhile, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will observe holidays on October 21 and 22 for Diwali Laxmi Puja and Diwali Balipratipada.

MCX will remain closed on October 21 but will open for the evening session on October 22, while also conducting its Muhurat Trading on October 21, 2025.

Investors planning their Diwali trades should mark their calendars accordingly and make the most of the Muhurat Trading session to welcome prosperity in their portfolios.
