Stock Market Opening Bell: Indian stock markets opened sharply lower on Friday, in tandem with global peers, as weak cues from Asian and US markets weighed on investor sentiment.

At 9:25 am, the BSE Sensex was down 410 points or 0.49 per cent at 82,901, while the Nifty50 slipped 122 points or 0.48 per cent to trade at 25,387.

Bharti Airtel led the losses, declining 4 per cent following a large block deal. HCL Tech, Wipro, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, TCS, Tata Consumer Products, and Adani Enterprises also dragged the benchmark lower.

Broader markets were under pressure as well — the Nifty MidCap index fell 0.59 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index lost 0.94 per cent.

Among sectors, IT stocks bore the brunt of the selloff, with the Nifty IT index dropping 1.6 per cent. Realty, Auto, and PSU Bank indices were also down between 0.9 and 1 per cent. None of the sectoral indices were in positive territory in early trade.

In the primary market, Pine Labs’ mainboard IPO opened for subscription today, while Studds Accessories made its debut on Dalal Street. Meanwhile, the Groww IPO entered the final day of its issue.
