Stock Market Opening Bell: Benchmark indices started the session on a weak note, extending their downward trend for the fifth straight day amid mixed signals from global markets.
The BSE Sensex opened at 81,574.31, down 141.32 points, while the Nifty50 slipped 22.4 points to 25,034.50.
Among the gainers, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank and NTPC led the BSE pack, while Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance and Kotak Mahindra Bank were top laggards. On the NSE, Hindalco, Nestle and Bharti Airtel advanced, whereas Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance and Maruti weighed on the index.

Broader markets showed marginal gains, with the Nifty MidCap 100 rising 0.03 per cent and Nifty SmallCap 100 up 0.02 per cent.
Sectorally, Nifty Auto and PSU Bank indices were the biggest drags, down 0.54 per cent and 0.32 per cent respectively, while Nifty FMCG and Pharma outperformed, gaining 0.45 per cent and 0.29 per cent.
