Stock Market Opening Bell: Sensex opens higher; Nifty nears 25,100

Stock Market Opening Bell: Indian stock markets opened on a positive note on Tuesday as investors awaited the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting, scheduled for announcement on Wednesday, September 17. At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex rose 109 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 81,895, while the NSE Nifty50 added 24 points, or 0.10 per cent, to trade at 25,092.

Markets are also watching closely a meeting between chief negotiators from India and the United States, expected today, to take stock of discussions on a proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap index was flat, while the Nifty SmallCap index edged 0.09 per cent higher.

Among sectors, the Nifty Auto index led gains, up 0.5 per cent, reflecting buying interest in select automobile stocks. In contrast, the Nifty PSU Bank index was the top laggard, slipping 0.07 per cent in early deals.
