In a press release filed with the exchanges on Monday, February 23, Tata Communications said the partnership aims to jointly advance digital infrastructure by combining RailTel’s nationwide optical fibre network with Tata Communications’ global digital capabilities spanning networks, cloud, cybersecurity and omnichannel platforms.

Through the collaboration, the companies plan to modernise network infrastructure, enhance cyber protection, enable secure and sovereign cloud adoption for sensitive workloads, and deploy AI-enabled platforms to improve performance and reliability.

The association is also expected to support ministries, state governments, public sector undertakings and enterprises that rely on RailTel’s infrastructure. Citizen-facing services such as railway Wi-Fi, public broadband, surveillance systems and digital governance platforms are expected to benefit from improved connectivity and system resilience.

For RailTel, the collaboration provides an opportunity to strengthen its offerings across data centres, managed services, cloud and cybersecurity. For Tata Communications, the tie-up enables the extension of its digital ecosystem into critical public and enterprise environments at a national scale.

Sanjai Kumar, Chairman & MD, RailTel, said that the collaboration allows Railtel to bring in "advanced capabilities that will help our customers modernise their systems, improve resilience and serve citizens more effectively.”

Sumeet Walia, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Tata Communications, said, “As India moves from digital adoption to AI leadership, our collaboration with RailTel is building the backbone for a secure, smart, and sovereign future.”

The Navaratna PSU operates over 63,000 route kilometres of optical fibre across India, connecting cities, towns, rural areas and more than 6,000 railway stations.

Shares of Tata Communications were trading 1.41% down at ₹1,662.90 as of 10.43 am. The stock has gained 15.82% in the past year.
