The announcement for this agreement was made by Tata Power and Acme Solar in separate exchange filings.

In its statement, Tata Power said that its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), has signed its first Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with NHPC Limited (NHPC).

The project, secured under NHPC’s BESS Tranche-I tender through a competitive bidding route for Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd.

Furthermore, this involves setting up a 30 MW / 120 MWh battery storage system at the 220 kV substation in Area Code, Kerala.

This energy project is expected to be commissioned within 15 months. The project will operate under a 12-year BESPA.

In its separate statement, Acme Solar said that the company, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, has signed Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements (BESPA) with NHPC.

The total capacity of this project is 275 MW/550 MWh across two Standalone Battery Energy Storage systems (BESS) projects.

These projects were secured at a tariff of ₹2,10,000 per Mega-Watt, per month, for 50 MW / 100 MWh and ₹2,22,000 per Mega-Watt, per month for 225 MW / 450 MWh through an e-reverse auction held on June 24, 2025.

This project is expected to be commissioned in 18 months and is being developed in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier this week, it was PNC Infratech that signed an agreement with NHPC for a 300 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected project with an energy storage component.

The contract includes a 150 MW / 600 MWh energy storage system (ESS). The quoted tariff for the project is ₹3.13 per kilowatt hour.

Shares of NHPC have recovered from the lows of the day, currently trading 0.4% lower at ₹87.52. The stock has risen 6% in the last one month.
