US share markets LIVE updates: US stock futures fell in pre-market trade after a volatile session that saw major indices swing sharply before closing off their lows.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.33%. S&P 500 futures slipped 0.34%, while Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.45%.

In the previous session, the S&P 500 fell 0.34%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost around 403 points, or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 1%. At one stage, the Dow had plunged more than 1,200 points before trimming losses.

All 11 S&P 500 sectors ended lower. Materials was the worst performer, sliding 2.7%, followed by industrials, down nearly 2%, as investors weighed the economic impact of rising oil prices and potential implications for future Federal Reserve policy decisions.

Brent crude futures settled 4.71% higher and West Texas Intermediate advanced 4.68%, though both retreated from session highs. Oil markets reacted after President Donald Trump said the US would provide risk insurance for maritime trade through the Persian Gulf to restore tanker traffic via the Strait of Hormuz.

Investors now turn to the ADP private payrolls report, with consensus estimates pointing to 48,000 jobs added in February. Earnings from Abercrombie & Fitch, Broadcom and Okta are also in focus.
