Vedanta power plant blast in Chhattisgarh leaves 10 dead, multiple injuredOn Monday (April 13), shares of Vedanta Ltd ended at ₹752.50, up by ₹7.40, or 0.99%, on the BSE.By Jomy Jos Pullokaran  April 14, 2026, 11:07:06 PM IST (Updated)3 Min ReadOil-to-metals conglomerate Vedanta Ltd on Tuesday (April 14) reported that 10 workers have died and 24 workmen have been affected following an incident at the Unit-1 boiler of its Athena Power plant located at Singhitarai in Chhattisgarh. The incident involved personnel of its subcontractor, NGSL.

In a statement, the company said, “As of now, 24 workmen of our subcontractor have been affected by the incident, and 10 have succumbed to their injuries. The company’s immediate priority is to ensure the provision of the best possible medical assistance and treatment to all those affected and doing everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the near and dear ones of the deceased."

Vedanta said it is extending full support to the injured and coordinating with medical teams and local authorities. It added that it is ascertaining details and has initiated a detailed investigation in coordination with its subcontractor and relevant authorities. The company expressed its condolences to the families of those affected.

In a tweet, Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal said he was deeply saddened by the tragic accident at the Singhitarai plant in Chhattisgarh.

Spokesperson from the power plant said, "An unfortunate incident occurred at one of the boiler units at our Singhitarai plant on the afternoon of 14 April 2026, involving personnel from our sub-contractor, NGSL, which operates and maintains the unit.”

"Our immediate priority is to ensure the best possible medical assistance and treatment for all those affected. We are extending full support to the injured and are closely coordinating with medical teams and local authorities.”

Further, it said, "We are in the process of ascertaining details, and a thorough investigation has been initiated in coordination with our partner and relevant authorities. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families of those affected during this difficult time."

Last month, Vedanta had clarified reports regarding a proposed $5 billion investment in the US, stating that it routinely evaluates strategic opportunities, including potential investments and partnerships, as part of its normal course of business.

The company added that any such discussions, if underway, are exploratory and preliminary in nature. Vedanta further said there are currently no binding decisions, definitive agreements, or material developments that warrant disclosure.
