Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has issued a public clarification following a social media stir involving actress Avneet Kaur.
Screenshots recently circulated online suggesting Kohli had liked one of Kaur’s Instagram photos from her fan page. The viral nature of the image led to widespread speculation, trolling, and a flurry of unwarranted assumptions from fans and netizens alike.
Amid the mounting chatter, Kohli stepped in to address the situation directly. Taking to his Instagram story, the former India captain explained that the alleged 'like' occurred unintentionally.
"I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absoultqly no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for understanding," Kohli wrote.
The timing of the incident added to the intrigue. On May 1, the same day the screenshot began doing the rounds, Kohli had shared a heartfelt birthday post for his wife, actress Anushka Sharma. Despite this display of affection, his name began trending for an entirely different reason—one he insists was a complete accident.
Interestingly, Kohli had already taken a surprising step in April by removing all advertisements and brand endorsements from his Instagram profile. With over 271 million followers, his account is one of the most influential marketing platforms in the world. This clean-up sparked curiosity among fans, with many speculating about his future digital strategy.

As the furore around the accidental 'like' settles, on-field developments in the IPL continue to grab attention. Suryakumar Yadav has overtaken Kohli in the race for the Orange Cap.
In a powerful performance against Rajasthan Royals, SKY scored a blazing 48 off 23 balls, surpassing Kohli’s 443-run tally. With 475 runs in 11 innings, an average of 67.86, and a strike rate of 172.73, Suryakumar now leads the tournament's run-scoring chart, displacing both Kohli and Sai Sudharsan.
