The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday conducted flypast on the Ganga Expressway in UP’s Shahjahanpur to assess its usability as an alternative runway in times of war and national emergencies.

This comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22 that killed 26 civilians.

IAF’s transport and fighter aircraft, which included Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, and more, conducted low fly-pasts, landings, and take-offs under all lighting conditions. Ganga Expressway is the first expressway to support day and night operations in the country.

Last week, the IAF conducted ‘Aakraman’ exercise, which included drills for complex ground attack missions for operations in different terrains, including plains and mountainous areas.

It was carried over a large area in the central sector by its mainstream fighter aircraft fleets led by the Rafale fighter aircraft. The IAF operates two squadrons of the Rafale aircraft, which are based out of Ambala and Hashimara in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Indian Navy's Multiple warships also conducted successful anti-ship missile firings to demonstrate long-range strike capabilities. INS Surat, the newest guided missile destroyer in the Navy's fleet, successfully tested the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system
