The India Meteorological Department (IMD) shared weather updates for different regions in India. The weather office forecasted rain in some parts of the country while issuing heat wave alerts in other places.

Let's take a look at the weather update in some of the India's regions.

IMD issued a yellow alert in Delhi for rain and thunderstorms this week. Today, May 1, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 26 degrees Celsius. 

Several districts, including Bengaluru rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Tumkur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Bellary, Chitradurga, and Mandya, will experience rain as a result of a cyclonic circulation that formed in the Bay of Bengal and is heading towards Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, according to the IMD.

Rains and thunderstorms are expected in these regions till May 6.

On the other hand, light rain is also forecasted in Bengaluru city, Belagavaim, Dharwad, Bidar etc.

According to IMD's Hyderabad centre, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places in Telangana in the next five days.

Districts like Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, and Medchal Malkajgiri — are very likely to receive thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The weather office has also issued a yellow alert in these places.

Due to a fresh western disturbance to impact the western Himalayan region from May 2, IMD predicted light to moderate rain across several parts of Himachal from May 1 to May 3.

A yellow alert has also been issued in Shimla for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning. 

Parts of southern India, Gujarat, and Rajasthan will continue to experience scorching conditions. Residents and farmers have been urged by IMD to keep abreast of local alerts and adopt the appropriate safety measures.

Meanwhile, April 2025 saw sharp weather contrasts, as per IMD. The month was the 50th driest April recorded nationwide since 1901. Yet southern and central India recorded substantial rainfall. The southern peninsular region experienced its 13th highest April rainfall since 1901 and 5th highest since 2001, while central India recorded its 28th highest April on record.

Temperatures continued to rise during this month. Maximum daily temperatures across India were the 8th highest ever recorded for April, while minimum temperatures ranked 9th highest. Most regions in northwest, central, and northeast India recorded normal to above-normal daytime temperatures, and some areas in the peninsular and east-central regions avoided the worst of the heat.
