Gold has been on a dream run. On April 22, 2025, domestic gold prices breached the Rs 1 lakh per 10 gram mark for the first time ever, before cooling slightly to around Rs 94,600.

Compared to last Akshaya Tritiya (May 10, 2024), when gold hovered near Rs 72,000, the yellow metal has delivered a staggering 30 per cent gain in less than a year, outperforming equities and other risky assets.

Globally, gold prices have surged 25 per cent in 2025 alone, touching an all-time high of $3,500 per ounce.

Factors like de-dollarisation, rising geopolitical tensions, and relentless central bank buying have made gold the ultimate safe haven. With the US dollar weakening and global uncertainty intensifying, investors are rushing to park money in gold.

Traditionally, Akshaya Tritiya is among India's biggest gold-buying festivals.

Despite sky-high prices, market feedback suggests robust demand for gold jewellery, coins, and even digital gold.

However, jewellers warn that if gold prices hover near Rs 1 lakh, demand could dip by 40–45 per cent, pushing them to offer lightweight jewellery, exchange schemes, and advance booking options.

According to Anitha Rangan, Economist at Equirus Securities, the rally could have more steam left."Reserve accumulation, geopolitical uncertainty, and historical patterns suggest that gold may continue its upward journey. Previous rallies have lasted 146–241 weeks, and this current rally — ongoing for around 130 weeks — still has legs. Unless global tensions ease significantly, a meaningful reversal is unlikely."

Rangan further points out that India’s domestic gold prices will also be supported by a depreciating Rupee, adding another layer of strength to the metal.

With Akshaya Tritiya around the corner, investors must remember gold thrives on uncertainty. While high prices may cause short-term corrections, experts believe the broader uptrend remains intact.

If history is any guide, Akshaya Tritiya 2025 could turn into another golden opportunity for smart investors.
