During the first session of WAVES 2025, "Legends & Legacies: The Stories that Shaped India's Soul," renowned Telugu actor Chiranjeevi took viewers on a moving trip through his early cinematic career.

Chiranjeevi reflected on the passion that drove his remarkable career while sharing the stage with legendary figures like Hema Malini, Mithun Chakraborty, Rajinikanth, and Mohanlal.

“My passion towards acting was since my childhood. I had my family encouraging me. I went to Chennai to pursue acting... I always wanted to showcase something extra as a star,” he said, drawing warm applause from the audience.

He went on to recall his formative years in the film industry. “In 1977, I was a student in a film institute. At that time I was inspired by Mithun Chakraborty. Also, back then actors would put a lot of makeup. But I wanted to be the boy next door. I have been inspired by Sholay, Amitabh Bachchan.”

Chiranjeevi's anecdotes offered a unique window into the development of his relatable and genuine acting style. Chiranjeevi chose simplicity, a decision that would later define his fame, in contrast to the glitz that dominated the screen in the era he entered. He was able to establish a strong connection with viewers throughout India by adopting the "boy-next-door" persona.

Actor Akshay Kumar moderated the discussion, which was a rich fusion of storytelling, nostalgia, and filmmaking knowledge. While each of the panel's legends offered their own perspectives, Chiranjeevi's journey was notable for its passion and humility.

On the work front, Chiranjeevi is currently working on the socio-fantasy movie Vishwambhara, which is scheduled for release in May 2025.

He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UK Parliament earlier in March 2025.
